A Week in the Life of a Mum in Business

Actually any stay at home parent knows what I’m talking about. And it’s not only this week but pretty much every Friday I feel like the week had 10 days instead of 5 and obviously it’s not over because the weekend is kind of like every other day too!

We are currently dealing with one case of extreme terrible twos and a case of approaching terrible twos (even though this is still very much on the cute side. There have been many, many tantrums – about not wanting to get dressed, not wanting to get undressed, wanting the pink cup and not the purple one, wanting the cup with the lid and not  accepting that THERE IS NO lid!!

And then the one about having dropped Panda on the floor and then demanding Daddy to pick him up, even though Panda was just by Her Majesty’s feet! I won’t even mention bedtimes…

So my business week took place during the two days when at least one of the kids was in childcare. This means prioritising extremely well and top of my priority list is my yoga teacher training course and the course work I still have to do. Second on the list is setting up yoga classes, promoting them online and finding a booking system. Third on the list is my blog and guess what takes up most of my time? Damn you social media!! Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Bloglovin, Google+ etc etc. How am I supposed to get anything done with you popping up with alerts all the time!

I actually blame social media for my accident earlier this week, when I was making up a baby bottle and accidentally knocked over the boiling water which spilled all over my leg, probably because I was thinking about something to do with the blog… Going to A&E wasn’t really on my to do list for the day and adding another cause for tantrums (“No, don’t touch my leg, Mummy is hurt” “but I want to touch Mummy’s leg!”) didn’t help either!

Do you ever feel like you’re a hamster in a wheel? Running and running and never getting anywhere? Doing “stuff” all day long without getting anything done? This is certainly what is often feels like to me.

I shouldn’t be too hard on myself because I did actually achieve a few things. I ticked off a couple of things from my teacher training to do list, I found a venue for a new yoga class and I managed to post three blog posts (four if I get this one out). I also went to a lovely swimming lesson with my Baby Leo and spent some quality time with Princess Maya when Leo was in childcare!

My business week ended today with a North Kingston Mums in Business meeting which was attended by Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Richmond Park and North Kingston, Zac Goldsmith who was there to answer questions and open the debate on what we need from the government. We also welcomed the very inspiring Councillor Andrea Craig, who we all felt really understands what it is like to be a Mum in Business – because she is one of us! These meetings always give me a boost, seeing all these talented women who are in exactly the same situation as me, trying to juggle family and business life.

So this is what we need, Zac, we want to be recognised for what we do, we want a support network and someone to talk to about setting up our business and our ideas… and we want to be able to have it all – raising our kids the way that we feel is best for them, inspiring the world with our ideas and talents and be valuable, appreciated and equal members of this society. That’s not too much to ask, is it?

Are you trying to juggle family and business life? How was your business week? Do you feel you’re getting all the support that you need? Would love to hear what you have to say so do leave me a comment in the comment box below.

  1. I’m just starting to try setting something up as dreading going back to work later in the year. I can totally relate to this post!! Trying to do things in every spare minute…why did i not do this before kids??! Good luck, stick at it sounds like you’re doing brilliant xx

    1. Thank you! Yes I sometime’s think I should have done the course before having kids but it wouldnt have been the same! It was also a great opportunity to start working for myself and not going back to work! Xx

  2. It sounds like you have had a hugely busy week. Is your long alright? That sounds painful. I think you are amazing. And you really should be kinder to yourself you are doing so much and deserve a break every now and then. Take care or yourself. Thanks for linking up with #SundaysStars. Hugs Mrs H xxxx

  3. Totally with you! I have a little boy soon to be 3 and a girl who is 5 1/2. There are rarely quiet moments to do work, and juggling means I always feel guilty about not spending enough time on something or someone! Well done for juggling a mad week! xx

  4. We have a business that is not picking up yet. Just starting. We need a decent desktop and some other programs that are too expensive for a mom like me. Hopefully it will pick up. But life is still busy with blogging and doing school runs and chores and some blogging reviews. I will start with some drawings (which is what our business is) this weekend so its going to be busy chaotic here. #sharewithme

  5. I feel this way everyday. I have one day to get all my work done without two toddlers crawling tantruming and screaming all over me everyday. Social media I agree kills me I get sucked in and can’t ever get my to do fully done. Glad I am not alone in that madness of working and kids. Thank you so much for linking up to Share With Me #sharewithme
