Get into Yoga

This is a question that I’m asking myself frequently when I’m struggling to find time for my practice. With a 1 and a 3 year old it’s just so damn hard to find the time to get on the mat! I can’t seem to be able to ever wake up before my kids to practice in the morning, my daughter doesn’t take naps anymore during lunch time which was always my yoga hour and there is always something going on in the evenings (i.e. kids not going to bed and other distractions like having dinner)!

This evening I finally had some time to myself and I was just about to enjoy a few moments of peace and quiet and coming back to my own yoga practice when my littlest little one woke up and screamed the house down. The poor soul is teething terribly at the moment so needed a bit more Mama-time (and Calpol…)

I have been practicing yoga for the last ten years sometimes regularly sometimes irregularly but it has been a part of my life since then. I decided to become a yoga teacher because it just felt like something that I had to do! It just felt right… I’m quite a rational person so this was quite an unusual decision for me but looking back it just makes sense. I need yoga in my life and I would love to help people to get into yoga!

It has helped me through my pregnancies, helped me with my back problems and it’s given me the tools to help myself. Physically but also emotionally and mentally. There is a lot going on in my head all the time and the kids demand so much energy! The only peaceful moments are usually when they are both strapped into their car seats or the first few minutes of bath-time (after that they start splashing around and the bath gets flooded…) I absolutely love it but it takes a lot of my energy. I know that getting on my yoga mat helps me every time!

I can honestly say that being a stay-at-home parent is the most demanding job I have ever had. Physically (carrying toddlers, scooters and shopping bags at the same time), emotionally (the guilt… I am doing this right?? should I not be doing this and that?) and mentally (multi-tastking, thinking about organsing the day, organising everyone in the house). And it’s really hard to find time for any exercise!

I’m sure there are a lot of you out there who feel exactly the same way and this is why I started my YouTube series Get into Yoga which are short videos (under 5min) which come out every Monday. You will find a new pose or breathing exercise every week and you can concentrate on one pose for 7 days or do even two or three videos depending on how much time you have! Make sure you subscribe to my Yogaberry channel so you get a reminder every week.

So the first video is my little introduction to Get into Yoga (if you are wondering what the scarf is doing on my wall… it’s to cover the mirror! Still working on a more professional set-up!)

You will see already a few videos on there so you can get started right away and don’t worry about the order! You can join in at any time and come back to some of the previous videos when you have a bit more time. Most importantly enjoy it and remember that 5 minutes are 100 times better than 0 minutes!!

I would really love for you to join me on this so do let me know if you’re in! If there are ever any poses that you would like to see on here that please let me know. Your comments and feedback are invaluable!

  1. Just followed you on YouTube.

It is so hard as a mother of 3 to fit in my yoga practice. I started doing yoga 18 months ago from home as I couldn’t fit a class in around my busy life. Most of the YouTube channels offering yoga videos are quite long and I wouldn’t have the time to complete them. This is a wonderful idea for us busy yogis with children.

    Thank you.

  2. Always wanted to learn to do yoga and am going to start looking into with doctors’ advice. As I have slight problems which might prevent me doing some movements.

  3. Keep doing what you’re doing, your videos are great! I’m slowly getting more into yoga, incorporating it into my workouts as I have really short hamstrings, they seriously need a lot of work!
