How I’m spring cleaning my life…

Well I can definitely think of a lot of better things to do! And sorry to disappoint you but this post is not about cleaning!

I wish I was one of those domestic goddesses who just manage to somehow always have a sparkling clean house and love to give their house a proper spring clean and de-clutter from top to bottom and inside out.

Unfortunately I’m not one of those and I need some serious motivation to de-clutter my house! No time is one of my excuses, an energetic two-year old who likes to spread clutter around as soon as someone dares to de-clutter anything is my other excuse.

I also find mess slightly comforting (is that weird??) BUT of course once I’ve gotten rid of the mess and clutter I feel so much better!

I’m not the best person to give tips on cleaning, tidying or de-cluttering so I won’t even pretend that I know what I’m talking about. I really don’t…

…but if you’re like me and you find it completely overwhelming to even think about it then maybe try and think about other ways to spring clean that don’t necessarily involve cleaning products or sorting through a big pile of paper!

Here are the things that I have spring-cleaned and de-cluttered so far:

Kids wardrobe

I managed to motivate myself to sort through old baby clothes putting them in piles of boy/girl/0-3months, 3-6 months, 6-9 months, 9-12 months etc etc boxes and sell them at the local mum2mum market. Most of it came back home with me of course but at least it’s all neatly boxed up for the next one (market… Not baby…)!

My website

I’ve given my website a bit of a spring clean. You might have noticed a change of look. I wanted to strip it back, simplify it and just make it easy to navigate! Hopefully this was successful but let me know if you have any feedback! I’m still tweaking it of course but am happy with the overall look at layout.

My Soul

I’ve given my soul a little bit of a spring clean… by visiting my family.

Getting away from everyday life, going back home, connecting with my roots is something that always helps me. Having my mum look after me and the kids and getting some rest is just the best thing. It helps me to reset my system and might look as if I’m temporarily shutting down (i.e. not move away from the sofa) but it gives me lots of energy for when I’m back in my daily routine!

My yoga practice

My yoga practice is also getting a little bit of a spring clean. I’ve been neglecting my personal yoga practice slightly so look forward to getting back to the mat and practise for myself rather than to prepare a class. I look forward to a Yin yoga workshop next week which I’m sure will give me lots of new inspiration for my own practice and the classes I teach!

Ways of thinking

Only when I get a little bit of distance I see that I get stuck in certain ways of thinking. I over-think, I over-plan, I over-analyse. Getting rid of old ways of thinking, finding new ways to look at problems or challenges can be a great spring clean for your life. Adding to my Non-Negotiables list and writing a journal is something that helps me!

Ways of working

My husband has given me a Bluetooth keyboard which I have put off using for a long time but I’m finding it more and more useful as I can write my posts anywhere in the house or garden while my little one is napping and my three year old is drawing pictures next to me.

It’s the small things that make a big difference I find. Even though that big pile of paper is still looking at me and is begging to get de-cluttered next… maybe I’ll manage to attack it soon, now that I’m in the swing of things!

  1. I love to have a spring clean as I’m switching my wardrobe round from winter/summer clothes, but not sure how it’s going to go this year with my two year old wreaking havoc at the same time! Going through paperwork is definitely my least favourite part ☺ #thelist
